| East Frisia is the only organ region in Germany
where organ music from the Gothic, the Renaissance, and the Baroque can be
played on original instruments. On this CD, you can hear many original sounds,
including the bells and the Gothic organ at Rysum, the vocal principals of
Uttum, the rich, colorful flutes of Norden, and the brilliant original Mixtures
of Marienhafe.
The repertoire recorded in Rysum illustrates the transition from the late
Gothic style of organ playing to that of the early Renaissance. Partiular
emphasis is placed on the "Fundamentum" style of German organists. |
By comparison, the organ in Uttum portrays the
elegance of the Dutch Renaissance organ style, particularly suitable for
the most important organist of that time, J.P. Sweelinck from Amsterdam.
The organs in Norden (built by Arp Schnitger) and in Marienhafe (built by
a Schnitger student) are the ideal venue for the music of Georg Böhm,
one of the most influential teachers of the young J.S. Bach. |
