| th more than 100 significant organs from six
centuries, East Frisia is one of the most richly endowed organ regions in
Europe. The five organs heard on this CD represent organ culture from the
Renaissance (played on the instrument in Osteel), the Baroque (played on
the instrument in Buttforde), and the Rococo (played on the instruments in
Neermoor, Veenhusen, and Groothusen). These instruments portray a cross-selection
of north German organ style during its heyday from the late 16th century
to the early 19th century. The later three instruments built by H.J.
Müller, J.G. Rohlfs, and J.F. Wenthin respectively, represent the work
of three excellent organ builders active in East Frisia around 1800, whose
instruments are among those with the best sounds from that period.

The program on this CD focuses on compositions
from the time these organs were built. The organ in Osteel, for example,
is an ideal organ for the works of Sweelinck. In addition the greatly
underestimated repertoire from the Rococo sounds particularly fascinating
on original instruments from this period. |
